Welcome to Session 3 for First Eucharist!

Please go through the lesson together with your child. It is due Mar 6. You will need the Blessed First Communion book and a pencil.

Don't forget turn in this session by having your child complete the short Google Form at the end of the lesson (scroll down).

  • Begin with the Sign of the Cross, and pray the prayer on page 79 together.

Overview of the Mass

  • Watch the Episode 1 together:
  • Read pgs 80-83 together.
  • Notice the illustrations, especially on pages 82-83. Ask your child if he/she recognizes anything (chalice, host, altar, chasuble worn by priest, etc.).
  • Don't forget about the Praying the Mass booklet - you can help your child find the different parts of the Mass in there as well.

The Introductory Rites

  • Watch Episode 2 together and then read and discuss pgs 84-85.

We Say Sorry

  • Read through pgs 86-87 together to learn about how we ask God for forgiveness at the beginning of each Mass.
  • The illustration depicts the story of the woman at the well. If you would like to read this story, it can be found in John 4:1-42.

Glory to God

  • Next in the Mass, we sing or say the Gloria. Read pgs 88-89 to learn about this prayer and part of the Mass.
  • Ask your child if they know where the first line ("Glory to God in the highest") comes from. (Hint: look at the illustration. It's from the angel who announced Jesus' birth to the shepherds.)

The Liturgy of the Word

  • Watch episode 3 together.
  • Read pgs 90-91 together. How many different readings are there during Mass? Who reads each of them?
  • Read pg. 92. What happens if a priest is not available for Mass?

We Believe

  • Watch Episode 4 together to learn about the Creed.
  • Read page 94 together.
  • Ask your child, "What is a creed?" (A summary of our core beliefs as Catholics)
  • Read the Nicene Creed out loud together (pgs. 96-97).

From the Bible: The Sower of Seeds

  • Watch Episode 5 together to hear the parable of the sower.
  • You can also read the parable on pages 98-99.

Wear It Out

  • Watch Episode 6 and read pages 100-101 together.
  • Do you know how many books are in the Bible? (73 - 46 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament)
  • Do you have a favorite Bible story?
  • Read pages 102-103 together.
  • Think about your relationship with the Bible - do you read it weekly? Daily? Only occasionally? Try to find time each day if possible to read the Word of God.
  • Read pg. 108 together or watch Episode 7 below.
  • Ask your child: “What are some of the most important things you learned in this lesson?" (God reveals His amazing plan for our lives through the Bible and the Mass on Sunday; Mass is a great way to thank God for all the blessings He gives us; God loves healthy relationships)

End Session 3 by praying the prayer on pg. 108 together.
