Welcome to Session 5 for First Eucharist!


Please go through the lesson together with your child. It is due April 3. You will need the Blessed First Communion book and a pencil.


Don't forget turn in this session by having your child complete the short Google Form at the end of the lesson (scroll down).


  • Begin with the Sign of the Cross, and pray the prayer on page 143 together.

This is a Special Day

  • Watch the Episode 1 together:
  • Read pgs 144-145 together.
  • Talk with your child about why his/her First Communion will be a special day. 
  • Pray the prayer on pg. 145 together.

You're Growing Up

  • Watch Episode 2 together and/or read pgs 146-147 together.  

Preparation Matters

  • Watch Episode 3, or read pgs. 148-149 together. 
  • Ask your child how they prepared for their First Reconciliation. How are they preparing now to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time?

Fasting

  • Read pgs 150-151.
  • What is fasting and why is it important? How does it help us?
  • Look at the picture together. Where is Jesus? (desert) Why is he there? (He went out to the desert to prepare for his mission by praying and fasting for 40 days)

The Eucharist Empowers Us to Do Great Things

  • Watch Episode 4 and/or read pgs. 152-152.
  • Read pages 152-153 together about the power of the Eucharist. 
  • "What amazing thing will God do through you?"

From the Bible: The Visitation Father

  • Watch episode 5 and then read pgs 154-155 together:
  • "What do you think the disciples felt during the last supper?" (Nervous, excited, confused, grateful, humbled, honored, happy....)

Your First but Not Your Last

  • Watch Episode 6 where Sarah shares some great advice she received about her own First Communion. (You can also read pages 156-157 with your child.)

Closing Prayer

  • Read pgs. 162-163 together or watch Episode 7.
  • Ask your child: “What are some of the most important things you learned in this lesson?” (I am ready to say 'yes' to God and receive my First Communion; The Eucharist will empower me to do great things for God; This is my first but not my last communion; This will be a really special day; I can prepare for Mass through prayer and fasting, etc.).




End Session 3 by praying the prayer on pg. 162 together.
