
Welcome to Session 1 for First Eucharist!
Please go through the lesson together with your child. It is due Feb. 6. You will need the Blessed First Communion book and a pencil.
Don't forget turn in this session by having your child complete the short Google Form at the end of the lesson (scroll down).
- Begin with the Sign of the Cross, and pray the prayer on page 1 together.
Keep Counting Your Blessings
- Watch the video together:
- Read pgs 2-3 together.
- Ask your child what some of the blessings are in his/her life.
- One of the greatest blessings any of us will ever experience is the Eucharist.
Your Journey with God Continues
- *Please note: pgs 4-27 goes more in depth with all 7 sacraments, so you may choose to break this section up over a couple of days.
- Watch Episode 2 together (this video is a little longer ~11min)
- Read through pgs 5-27 together
- Ask your child, "Why does God give us great Catholic moments (sacraments) like First Communion?" (He wants us to live a rich, full happy life in this world and be with Him in Heaven forever.)
God Loves to Celebrate
The First Time
- Read the story of Zacchaeus on pgs 30-31.
- Talk about why "firsts" are so special in our lives.
Feast Days
- Read pg. 32 together. Look at the illustration - do you recognize any of the saints there?
- Ask your child if they have a favorite saint and why they chose that saint. If not, maybe pick one to learn more about.
God's Favorite Day
- Read pg. 34 together.
- "What is God's favorite day, and why?"
What Makes Sunday Special?
Watch episode 4 together:
- Read pages 36-39 together.
- "What are some ways we can take care of ourselves?"
- "What are you most grateful for today?"
From the Bible: Creation
- Watch episode 5 and then read pgs 40-43 together:
Listening to God at Mass
- "Have you ever wanted to hear the voice of God in your life?"
- Watch the next episode where Ben and Sarah show us how.
Closing Prayer
- Read pgs. 50-51 together or watch Episode 7 below.
- Ask your child: “What are some of the most important things you learned in this lesson?” (The Eucharist is one of the greatest blessings in life, Sunday is God's favorite day, God loves spending time with me, going to Mass on Sunday is a great way to show God how grateful I am, etc.).
End Session 3 by praying the prayer on pg. 51 together.
