 Blessing of Animals
Saint Anne Church (outdoors - near Chapel entryway) Saturday October 1st at 10:00am
The blessing of pets and animals is often celebrated on or near the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi (October 4th). This blessing is held near that feast day because of St. Francis' love for animals as expressed in his Canticle of Creatures. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals.
St. Francis, who founded the Catholic Church’s Franciscan order, lived in Italy during the late 12th and 13th centuries. He is remembered for his generosity to the poor and his willingness to minister to the lepers. St. Francis died at Portiuncula, Italy on October 4, 1226. Spiritual Retreat for Those Who Mourn
