We want to formally introduce the new Wonderfully Made Ministry, a group for LGBTQIA+ people, family, friends, and allies here in the church.
The Wonderfully Made Ministry held their monthly meeting this past Wednesday, and part of their conversation revolved around the recent statement issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith surrounding the blessing of same-gender marriages or unions. This statement naturally evoked a strong reaction from a number of Catholics, LGBTQ+ individuals, and allies. With support from other members of the parish, the Wonderfully Made Ministry felt compelled to compose their own response to reaffirm our Faith Community's commitment to welcome and affirm all of God's people, and to show their continuing support for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. Our mission is to proclaim and embody God’s all-inclusive love for LGBTQIA people and those who love them.
Call to Action:
Every human being is created by God with sacred worth and dignity, including people of all gender identities and sexual orientations. We believe that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) people are all members of the body of Christ and are numbered among the People of God. Our mission commits us to:
♥ Extending welcome to LGBTQIA people
♥ Providing a safe place of belonging and acceptance for LGBTQIA people
♥ Supporting the spiritual empowerment of LGBTQIA people
♥ Providing guidance to clergy and staff to ensure a welcoming environment and pastorally sensitive care for LGBTQIA people
♥ Fostering dialogue and educational outreach to promote the acceptance of LGBTQIA people as full and equal members of Church and society
♥ Ministering to LGBTQIA people in need in our local communities and society at large
The Wonderfully Made Ministry is open to anyone who would like to join to learn more as we discuss articles, read books, have screenings of LGBTQIA+ related videos, and hold virtual and in person events to share information and spread awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our meetings are non-committal; come once or to as many as you like!
